The investor in an NFT and metaverse project, Animoca Brands issued a scam alert regarding the new ERC-20 token dubbed Animoca Brands Metaverse on Uniswap V2 and the company said the asset fraudulently claims to be associated with it and uses the symbol Animoca. According to the official press release, Animoca Brands noted that the namesake token has no connection to the company and even urged the company to stay away from the fraudulent coin and any other related activities like engaging in any form such as social media and messaging apps.

Animoca Brands warned the users and asked them to swtich to a new wallet if they already recieved or bought some of the tokens to mitigate the chances of being targeted in future scams and stated:
“Animoca Brands reserves the right to take necessary actions against the operators of the fake token for copyright infringement, impersonation, and misrepresentation, and against organizations and individuals that enable the fraudulent token to perpetuate its fraudulent claims.”

Already an established name in the gaming space, Animoca Brands set its footing in the metaverse and NFT space and even announced that it will expand to Japan with the launch of a subsidiary that raised about $10 million of funding in the seed round last month. The Japanese brach allows intellectual property holders in the country to develop fan communities via the issuance of the NFTs and participation of the broader Web3 ecosystem while it also revealed more plans to work with professionals across the world to help the Japanese IP holders to expand into the global markets.
The company announced the launch of the Guild Accelerator Program to identify and to invest up to $500K during the early-stage guild. The program rolled out a new partnership with the global venture accelerator Brinc which will focus on the play-to-earn guild ecosystem across the world.
